Job Description:
A Production Supervisor in steel manufacturing oversees daily shop-floor operations, managing shift crews and equipment to meet production quotas safely and efficiently. They enforce strict quality and safety standards, coordinate material usage, and minimize downtime.
Core Responsibilities
- Production Oversight: Direct steelworkers, manage shift schedules, and ensure continuous operation of mill lines, furnaces, or casting bays.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) regulations, ensuring proper use of PPE and hazard management.
- Quality Control: Monitor product specifications (such as thickness, tensile strength, or grade) and collaborate with QC teams to reduce scrap.
- Team Leadership: Train, mentor, and assign tasks to crew members, managing performance and addressing any conflicts.
- Equipment Maintenance: Supervise equipment adjustments and report malfunctions to minimize production delays.
Key Requirements
- Experience: Typically requires 3–10+ years in industrial steel fabrication, rolling mills, or continuous casting.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of metallurgy, heavy machinery, technical specifications, and blueprints.
- Certifications: Depending on the specialization (e.g., welding, steel erection), certifications like OSHA may be required.
- Soft Skills: Excellent decision-making, conflict resolution, and operational problem-solving abilities.
