About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Service Engineer – Mining & Heavy Equipment with strong practical experience in servicing, troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling heavy-duty equipment engines and transmissions.

The ideal candidate should have practical exposure to diesel engines, powertrain systems and heavy equipment, with experience working on makes such as Cummins, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Isuzu and BEML engines, and Allison and ZF transmissions.

Candidates must be able to clearly specify the makes/models they have worked on and explain their actual responsibilities in engine/transmission overhaul, diagnostics, fault finding, repair and commissioning. This is a hands-on technical role, and practical workshop and field experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Heavy Equipment Servicing

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of mining, construction and heavy-duty equipment.
• Perform scheduled servicing, inspection and maintenance as per manufacturer/service guidelines.
• Inspect engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, cooling systems, fuel systems and related components.
• Identify equipment performance issues and recommend corrective action.

2. Engine Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems in heavy-duty diesel engines.
• Troubleshoot issues related to:
  • Engine starting
  • Low power
  • Excessive smoke
  • Overheating
  • Abnormal engine noise
  • Oil pressure
  • Fuel injection
  • Cooling systems
  • Lubrication systems
• Conduct systematic fault-finding using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.

3. Engine Overhaul & Repair

• Carry out or supervise complete and partial engine overhauls.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble engine components.
• Check and assess components such as:
  • Cylinder heads
  • Pistons and liners
  • Crankshaft
  • Connecting rods
  • Bearings
  • Camshaft
  • Valves
  • Turbocharger
  • Fuel injection system
  • Cooling and lubrication systems
• Identify worn/damaged components and recommend replacement or repair.
• Ensure correct assembly, clearances, torque specifications and testing after overhaul.

4. Transmission Service & Overhaul

• Diagnose and troubleshoot heavy-duty automatic/manual transmission problems.
• Work on Allison and ZF transmissions or comparable systems.
• Carry out transmission dismantling, inspection, repair, reassembly and testing.
• Diagnose issues related to shifting, transmission pressure, overheating, abnormal noise and power transmission.
• Conduct testing after repair/overhaul to ensure proper equipment performance.

5. Field Service

• Visit customer sites, mines, construction projects and workshops for breakdown and service support.
• Attend emergency equipment breakdowns and provide timely technical solutions.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Interact directly with customers and explain technical issues and recommended solutions.
• Maintain proper service records and submit technical reports after site visits.

6. Technical Support

• Provide technical guidance to service technicians and workshop teams.
• Assist in identifying recurring equipment failures and recommend preventive measures.
• Coordinate with spare-parts and service teams for timely availability of required components.
• Support warranty-related inspections and technical investigations where required.

Equipment / Engine Experience

Candidates should have hands-on experience with one or more of the following:

Engines

• Cummins
• Caterpillar
• Komatsu
• Isuzu
• BEML
• Other equivalent heavy-duty diesel engines

Transmissions

• Allison
• ZF
• Other heavy-duty commercial/off-highway transmission systems

Candidates must specify the exact makes and models handled during their career.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a practical, hands-on service professional, not only a theoretical/desk-based engineer.

Essential Requirements

• Diploma / ITI / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, Diesel Mechanics or related engineering discipline.
• Relevant experience in heavy equipment service and maintenance.
• Strong practical knowledge of diesel engines and powertrain systems.
• Hands-on experience in engine troubleshooting and overhaul.
• Hands-on experience in transmission troubleshooting, repair and/or overhaul.
• Experience with mining, construction, earthmoving or other heavy-duty equipment.
• Ability to independently diagnose mechanical problems and identify root causes.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, mines and project locations.
• Good communication and customer-handling skills.
