Job Description:
A Shift Incharge - Mechanical Maintenance oversees all mechanical operations and maintenance during a designated shift to ensure maximum equipment uptime, safety, and efficiency. They lead technical teams to perform preventative and breakdown maintenance, troubleshoot machinery, and manage spare parts in industrial environments. [1, 2, 3]
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Execution: Implement preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyor systems) to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and fix mechanical failures in real-time, performing root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrence.
- Team Leadership: Supervise technical staff and contract workers during the shift, allocating tasks and ensuring safety compliance.
- Safety Adherence: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (e.g., Lockout-Tagout, PPE) and environmental regulations.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, breakdown reports, and repair records.
- Inventory Control: Coordinate with the stores department to ensure the availability of crucial mechanical spare parts. [1, 2, 3]
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 3–10 years in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing, steel plant, or heavy engineering environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatic systems, cranes, conveyors, gearboxes, and material handling equipment.
- Soft Skills: Leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to manage teams and coordinate with production departments. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Working Conditions
- Typically involves rotating shifts (day/night) and working on the shop floor.
