Job Description:
A Senior Substation Engineer leads the design, technical execution, and commissioning of high-voltage (HV/EHV) substations, ensuring compliance with IEEE/IEC standards. Responsibilities include developing substation layouts, protection schemes, grounding, and relay settings, while mentoring junior staff and managing project budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering: Produce detailed engineering packages, including single-line diagrams, physical layouts, elevation, grounding, conduit, and lightning protection.
- Technical Leadership: Act as the technical lead for complex projects, overseeing design reviews, quality control (QC), and adherence to standards.
- Protection & Control: Develop schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, panel GA drawings, and SCADA/communication protocols.
- Equipment Specification: Prepare specifications for major apparatus (transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers) and support procurement.
- Project Coordination: Liaise with clients, vendors, and multi-disciplinary teams (civil/structural).
- Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers and designers.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 6–10+ years of experience in high-voltage substation design.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in substation design software and understanding of IEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with NERC standards (MOD/PRC).
- Field experience in testing and commissioning.
