Job Description:

 

A General Manager (GM) in a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations, including production, maintenance, safety, and administration, to ensure efficient, quality-controlled, and profitable operation of the DRI facility. Key responsibilities include managing production processes, overseeing mechanical and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing budgets, and leading personnel to foster continuous improvement. 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Production & Operations Management:Supervise the entire DRI production process, ensuring optimal plant performance, efficiency, and timely delivery of products. 
  • Mechanical & Maintenance Oversight:Lead and manage all mechanical engineering projects and maintenance strategies, ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of plant machinery and equipment. 
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance:Enforce strict adherence to local and industry-specific safety, environmental, and regulatory standards within the plant. 
  • Budget & Resource Management:Prepare and manage project and operational budgets, conduct cost analyses, and ensure the optimum utilization of raw materials and resources. 
  • Personnel Leadership:Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and other staff, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and skill development. 
  • Strategic Planning:Oversee the entire project lifecycle for new DRI projects or upgrades, from planning and execution to completion, ensuring adherence to project schedules and quality standards. 
  • Technical Expertise:Provide technical guidance on mechanical systems and machinery, and lead troubleshooting efforts when issues arise. 
  • Stakeholder & Supplier Relations:Maintain effective relationships with suppliers, contractors, and senior management to ensure the procurement of quality materials and timely project updates. 
Key Qualifications
 
  • Education:Typically requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical field. 
  • Experience:Significant years of experience in DRI plant operations, mechanical engineering, or a similar heavy industry is essential. 
  • Skills:Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial, along with a deep understanding of plant operations and maintenance. 
  • Knowledge:Expertise in specific DRI processes, equipment, raw material analysis, and relevant regulatory frameworks is highly valued.
